Kashmir, January 7,2026-In a significant technological breakthrough aimed at improving workplace safety, a young engineer from Kashmir has designed an app-based safety system to prevent electrocution of power linemen while working on live or faulty electric lines.
The innovative system allows linemen and control room staff to digitally coordinate power shutdowns through a secure mobile application, reducing the risk of human error that often leads to fatal accidents. Once maintenance work is scheduled, the system ensures that power supply cannot be restored without proper digital clearance from the lineman on site.
According to the engineer, the idea was inspired by frequent incidents of electrocution involving power department workers, often caused by miscommunication or premature restoration of electricity. “This system puts control directly in the hands of the lineman, making the process safer and more transparent,” he said.
The app-based solution includes features such as real-time alerts, authentication-based access, and status updates, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed before any power line is re-energised. Experts say the system could significantly reduce on-duty fatalities and injuries among electricity workers.
Officials and technical experts have welcomed the innovation, calling it a cost-effective and scalable solution that can be integrated into existing power distribution frameworks. If implemented, it could serve as a model for other regions facing similar safety challenges.
The development once again highlights Kashmir’s growing pool of young innovators using technology to address real-world problems, reinforcing the region’s potential as a hub of grassroots innovation and engineering excellence.
