Jammu, April 25, 2025 – The Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board has announced the recruitment of 508 Junior Engineer posts, with 358 positions allocated to the Jal Shakti Department and 150 to the Public Works Department. The move aims to address the critical manpower shortage hampering the implementation of water supply schemes and infrastructure projects across the Union Territory. Online applications for these posts are now open, as per the official notification released on the JKSSB .
The announcement follows directives from Jal Shakti Minister Javed Rana, who recently emphasised the need to expedite recruitment processes during a ceremony elevating 25 Executive Engineers to Superintending Engineers . Rana had instructed senior officials of the Jal Shakti Department to maintain close coordination with recruiting agencies like JKSSB to fast-track hiring and strengthen the department’s workforce. The minister’s office is actively monitoring cadre management to ensure efficient implementation of water supply schemes, including those under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide piped water to every household in Jammu and Kashmir.
The shortage of technical staff, particularly Junior Engineers, has significantly delayed critical water supply and infrastructure projects in the region. The JKSSB’s recruitment drive is expected to enhance the department’s capacity to deliver on key initiatives, such as improving drinking water access in rural and urban areas and supporting water conservation efforts under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. The Public Works Department will also benefit from the additional 150 JE posts, enabling faster progress on road and building projects vital to the Union Territory’s development.
Eligible candidates, who must hold a domicile of Jammu & Kashmir and possess a diploma or degree in the relevant engineering discipline, can apply online from May 5, 2025, to June 3, 2025. The selection process will involve a Computer-Based Written Test , with shortlisted candidates receiving a salary under Pay Level 6 (INR 35,400–1,12,400). The recruitment is part of a broader effort to ensure transparent and efficient hiring, aligning with the J&K Engineering Service Recruitment Rules of 1997.
Minister Rana’s proactive approach to cadre management and recruitment has been widely welcomed, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the positive impact on Jammu and Kashmir’s development goals. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to overcoming administrative challenges and advancing the vision of a developed India.
