J&K youth participate in rallies to make the state drug-free

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir launched a campaign for ‘Nasha Mukt’ Jammu & Kashmir on September 1, 2022 at the Convention Centre, Jammu. The programme commenced with the audience taking a pledge to do everything possible to make the state drug-free. In his address, the LG Shri Manoj Sinha said it is true that the growing addiction to drugs in J&K is catching the younger generation in its net. Slowly, it is destroying the youth power. The state alone cannot fight against the drug menace, said the LG. The citizens too need to stand up against it. In fact, you have to lead the fight. The government is ready to walk step by step with you, said the LG. He said J&K has taken four resolutions which he mentioned during his address to J&K people during Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal on Independence Day on 15TH August, 2022. First, to make J&K fearless. Second, to make J&K corruption-free. Third, to make J&K drug-free. And fourth, to make J&K full of employment opportunities.

The administration has adopted zero tolerance policy against drug dealers and drug traffickers, he said. It is the collective responsibility of the society to join this fight against drug menace. With perseverance, commitment and full ability, we will together work to fight the menace. You can rely on the government, there will be no let up on the part of the government, the LG stated. There is only one way for the accomplishment of all the four resolutions and that is ‘Jan Bhagidaari”, said the LG. With the help of the public, this cancer spread in the society can be treated, said the LG.

In Pulwama district, schools and college students and youth conducted rallies to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and to tell people about drug de-addiction centres. The youth said, our community is getting a bad name because of drugs and it is making a bad impact on us. Those who are into drugs are also getting into the habit of stealing. The drugs are destroying our youth and it will impact the whole nation as the nation’s development rests on the youth, said a concerned citizen. Many youths are dying because of drug consumption too. This programme is a good initiative that is creating awareness on the harmful impact of drugs. The drugs are very destructive whether for young or old people and it should be banned from the world, said another young Kashmiri girl.

In Shopian district too, rallies were taken out by government girl schools and boys to spread awareness on the harmful effects of drugs. The involvement of the youth in drug-free rally sends a message of awareness and warning to the youth and parents in Shopian district. We request everyone near us to stay away from drugs, said a concerned girl. The students were vocal that drugs should be done away with. Our children are the future of tomorrow, they are our pride, said a parent. Shopian is anxiously waiting to become a drug-free district.

In another district Rajouri, an awareness programme was conducted to make the people stay away from drugs. The youth looking for jobs were encouraged to expend their energy in sports. The Rajouri residents appealed to the administration, police and civil administration to catch the bigger fish that is supplying the drugs to the youth, and because of whom, the youth are trapped in drug addiction. It is unfortunate that the youth are caught in the drug addiction and to make them de-addicted and save them from drugs, all the districts and states need to act together for a drug-free nation, said a concerned official. Everyone should play their role to make the government scheme of’ Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ a success.
