Srinagar, November 5, 2026– Jammu and Kashmir has taken another step towards strengthening its position in the international tourism market by showcasing the diverse tourism potential of the Union Territory at the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2026, being held in the United Kingdom from November 3 to 5. The participation of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department reflects its efforts to attract international visitors, develop global business connections and present the region as a destination offering memorable experiences throughout the year.
World Travel Market London is one of the leading international platforms for the travel and tourism industry. It brings together tourism departments, travel companies, hotel representatives, tour operators, investors and other industry professionals from different parts of the world. Participation in such an event provides Jammu and Kashmir with an opportunity to interact with international stakeholders, explore business partnerships and introduce its tourism products to a wider audience.
During the exhibition, the Tourism Department presented the natural beauty, cultural richness and diverse travel experiences of the Union Territory through dedicated stalls. The promotional initiative focused on highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s potential as a destination for leisure, adventure, nature-based and cultural tourism. From the picturesque valleys of Kashmir to the spiritual destinations of Jammu, the region offers a variety of experiences that appeal to different categories of travellers.
The participation also received attention from senior representatives. The Indian Pavilion at the exhibition was inaugurated by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the presence of Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and Syed Qamar Sajjad, Director of Tourism, Kashmir. Their presence reflected the importance attached to promoting India’s tourism destinations in international markets.
Jammu and Kashmir possesses several attractions that give it a distinctive identity in the global tourism industry. Destinations such as Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Patnitop and the spiritual centres of Jammu offer opportunities for sightseeing, adventure activities, pilgrimage and cultural exploration. The famous Dal Lake, traditional houseboats, Mughal gardens, snow-covered mountains and scenic landscapes form an important part of the region’s tourism appeal.
One of the major objectives of participating in WTM London is to expand international outreach and encourage foreign travel companies to include Jammu and Kashmir in their tourism packages. Direct interaction with overseas tour operators can help establish commercial relationships, improve destination visibility and create opportunities for future tourist arrivals. Such international engagement can also introduce the region to travellers looking for experiences beyond conventional holiday destinations.
Tourism has a significant connection with the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir. Its benefits extend beyond hotels and travel agencies to local transport operators, restaurants, handicraft producers, guides, shopkeepers and small business owners. An increase in international tourism can generate additional income, support traditional occupations and create employment opportunities, particularly for young people. It can also strengthen the market for locally made products, including Pashmina shawls, carpets, papier-mâché items and other handicrafts.
Another important aspect of this participation is the promotion of year-round tourism. Jammu and Kashmir offers different experiences across seasons, from summer sightseeing and trekking to winter sports and snow-based activities. Presenting this diversity to international audiences can help reduce the seasonal dependence of tourism businesses and encourage visitors to explore the region at different times of the year.
However, international promotion must be supported by reliable infrastructure, quality hospitality services, visitor safety, environmental conservation and effective connectivity. Tourism development should also respect the region’s natural resources and cultural heritage. Creating a positive visitor experience is essential for building confidence and encouraging repeat visits.
The participation of Jammu and Kashmir at World Travel Market London 2026 is therefore more than a promotional exercise; it represents an effort to connect the region’s tourism industry with the global marketplace. By presenting its natural attractions, cultural identity and diverse experiences, the Union Territory aims to strengthen its international image and explore new economic opportunities. The real measure of success will lie in converting international exposure into meaningful partnerships, increased tourist arrivals and sustainable benefits for local communities. With consistent promotion and responsible development, Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to establish itself as one of the world’s distinctive travel destinations.
