Kashmir Ahead

J&K tourism draws 1.61 crore visitors: LG Manoj Sinha

Jammu, January 27,2026- Jammu and Kashmir recorded an impressive 1.61 crore tourist arrivals during the year, despite facing major challenges such as the Pahalgam terror attack and devastating floods in parts of the Union Territory, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said.

Addressing a public function, the Lieutenant Governor said the steady tourist inflow reflects the resilience of Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism sector and growing confidence among visitors. He noted that sustained efforts by the administration to strengthen security arrangements, restore infrastructure, and promote new destinations played a crucial role in maintaining tourism momentum.

LG Sinha acknowledged that incidents of violence and natural calamities temporarily affected travel, particularly in south Kashmir, but timely response measures ensured minimal long-term impact. Roads, hotels, and tourist facilities were restored swiftly, while focused campaigns highlighted the region’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and hospitality.

Tourism remains a key pillar of the J&K economy, providing livelihood opportunities to thousands of families. The administration continues to work on diversifying tourism by promoting adventure tourism, border tourism, heritage tourism, and religious circuits across both Jammu and Kashmir regions.

The Lieutenant Governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing new tourist destinations, improving connectivity, and ensuring the safety of visitors. He said Jammu and Kashmir is steadily emerging as a year-round tourism destination, attracting travelers from across the country and abroad.
