Kashmir, December 19,2025:More than 19 lakh children across Jammu and Kashmir will be administered polio drops as part of an intensified immunisation campaign aimed at keeping the Union Territory polio-free, officials said on Thursday.
The Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive will cover children in the 0–5 years age group, with thousands of vaccination booths set up across urban and rural areas, including remote and hard-to-reach regions. Special mobile teams have also been deployed to ensure 100 per cent coverage, particularly among migratory populations and underserved communities.
Health officials said the campaign reflects the government’s continued commitment to child health and disease prevention, in line with the national goal of sustaining India’s polio-free status.
“All necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure that every eligible child receives polio drops. Parents are urged to actively participate and cooperate with health workers,” an official from the Health Department said.
The drive is being carried out with the support of health workers, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, volunteers, and local administration, who will conduct door-to-door visits to ensure no child is missed.
Authorities have also strengthened monitoring and supervision mechanisms to maintain quality and safety during the immunisation process. Public awareness campaigns are underway to encourage parents to bring their children to nearby booths.
Jammu and Kashmir has consistently recorded high immunisation coverage in previous rounds, contributing significantly to the country’s success in eradicating polio.
Health officials reiterated that polio vaccination is safe, free, and essential, and appealed to parents and guardians to ensure their children receive the life-saving drops.
