Jammu, August 27, 2025: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review the rescue and relief operations, restoration of essential services, and preparedness of Jammu and Kashmir to deal with the worsening flood situation caused by incessant rainfall and flash floods.
The Lieutenant Governor directed officials to ensure safe evacuation of people from low-lying and flood-affected areas, while maintaining critical services such as power, healthcare, clean drinking water, ration, and tele-connectivity. He emphasised that essential services disrupted in disaster-hit areas must be restored on priority, with adequate stock of food, medicines, and emergency supplies.
Calling for swift action, the LG instructed the Power Development Department (PDD) to work closely with NHPC Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for the restoration of electricity infrastructure. He also asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to assist the Public Works Department (PWD) in repairing damaged roads and highways.
To tackle the crisis, the LG directed the Jal Shakti Department to provide alternative arrangements for safe drinking water in water-logged and remote flood-hit areas. Health, PWD, Food & Civil Supplies, and PDD officials have been ordered to remain stationed in the Jammu Division, with no officer allowed to leave duty stations.
The LG further announced the closure of non-essential government offices, schools, and colleges until further notice and asked all districts to ensure 24×7 control room functioning to support affected households. He stressed that emergency responders must be pre-positioned in vulnerable areas, with additional teams kept ready for rapid deployment.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha lauded the Army, Air Force, NDRF, SDRF, CAPFs, Police, and District Administration for acting swiftly to minimise the loss of lives by evacuating people to safer locations.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-C Northern Command; Santosh Yadav, Chairman NHAI; DGP Nalin Prabhat; Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, GOC 15 Corps; Shaleen Kabra, ACS Jal Shakti; Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to LG; senior officials of BRO, NDRF, SDRF, telecom service providers, and divisional commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, along with top Army and CAPF officials.
The Lieutenant Governor said he is personally monitoring the situation 24×7 and remains in constant touch with UT and central agencies to coordinate rescue and relief efforts.
