Srinagar, October 10, 2025 – In a resounding endorsement of sports as a pillar of discipline and unity, Lieutenant Governor Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, graced the inaugural ceremony of the All India Police Judo Cluster 2025 at the SK Stadium here today. The event, organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Police in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB), brought together over 500 elite athletes from 25 states and union territories, showcasing high-octane judo action under the theme “Fit India, Secure India.”
The vibrant opening ceremony, set against the backdrop of Srinagar’s crisp autumn morning, featured a ceremonial guard of honor by J&K Police contingents, a spectacular martial arts display, and the hoisting of the national flag. LG Sinha, who arrived amid enthusiastic cheers from participants and spectators, lit the traditional torch and declared the cluster open, emphasizing judo’s role in building resilience and camaraderie among law enforcement personnel. “Judo teaches us the art of balance—on the mat and in life. Our police forces, the guardians of peace, embody this spirit daily, and events like this cluster sharpen their edge while fostering national integration,” he remarked, drawing applause from the packed stadium.The four-day tournament, running from October 10 to 13, features men’s and women’s categories across weight divisions from 48kg to over 100kg, with knockout rounds leading to finals. Competitors, including medalists from national championships and international circuits, are vying for top honors, with J&K Police aiming to defend their dominance—having clinched 12 golds in the 2024 edition. Key highlights include adaptive judo sessions for differently-abled officers and workshops on sports psychology, aligning with the Khelo India initiative’s push for inclusive fitness.
LG Sinha interacted extensively with athletes, felicitating outstanding performers from the opening bouts and distributing sports kits sponsored by the J&K Sports Council. He also unveiled a commemorative poster and a digital leaderboard, underscoring the administration’s commitment to upgrading sports infrastructure in the valley. “Jammu & Kashmir is emerging as a premier destination for national sports events, thanks to improved facilities and youth engagement. This cluster not only hones skills but also promotes tourism and cultural exchange,” Sinha added, referencing recent successes like the Kashmir Super League 2025 and Khelo India Winter Games.DGP J&K, Shri Nalin Prabhat, who presided over the technical draw, lauded the LG’s patronage: “Under Shri Sinha’s leadership, sports have become a bridge to peace in J&K.
