On the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans Day, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha paid a moving tribute to ex-servicemen, veterans, Veer Naris, and the families of the Armed Forces. Attending a commemorative event presided over by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh in Akhnoor, the Lieutenant Governor expressed profound gratitude to the brave soldiers who have served the nation with valour. In his speech, LG Sinha emphasised the pivotal role of soldiers in securing the nation’s borders, calling them the “guarantee of security and development.” He stressed the collective responsibility of society to ensure the welfare of soldiers and veterans, highlighting that their sacrifices should be honoured not just on such occasions, but every day. The Lieutenant Governor referred to the homes of martyrs as “sacred temples,” urging society to hold these families in deep respect. He also pointed to the responsibility of both the administration and the public to ensure that veterans lead lives of comfort and dignity, emphasizing that true tribute is in fulfilling such duties. A key highlight of the event was the dedication of the 108-ft high Monumental National Flag and the Akhnoor Heritage Museum by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh. These landmarks, LG Sinha remarked, will inspire future generations and serve as enduring reminders of the sacrifices made by India’s soldiers. The Lieutenant Governor also touched upon various welfare programs aimed at improving the quality of life for veterans, including support for the education and career prospects of their children. On this day, LG Sinha paid homage to the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, and observed a two-minute silence in honour of all fallen heroes. Additionally, mobility aids like motorised wheelchairs and retrofitted scooters were distributed to veterans and Veer Naris, further underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring that those who served the nation are supported in their later years. Through his remarks and participation, the Lieutenant Governor reinforced the importance of remembering and honoring the selfless contributions of veterans, urging society to make concrete efforts in ensuring their welfare and dignity.
