JAMMU, September 08, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha delivered a compelling keynote address at the Foundation Day ceremony of the University of Jammu, emphasizing the integration of innovation, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology in education to address climate challenges and contribute to Viksit Bharat.In his address, LG Sinha called upon the University to leverage modern innovation for conservation and to prepare students to tackle emerging challenges while balancing societal needs with ecosystem preservation. “Our youth must drive development that meets societal needs without compromising ecosystems and optimize the use of resources through modern innovation,” he said, advocating for a multi-dimensional approach to ensure a better future for generations.Highlighting the shared responsibility to protect Mother Earth, the LG urged the University to promote environmental awareness across society and start short-term professional programs focused on addressing climate challenges, including research on floods and landslides.
He also directed the University to deploy student groups and volunteer teams to assist the district administration in relief and rehabilitation efforts for families affected by recent natural calamities in Jammu and Kashmir.Congratulating the Vice Chancellor, faculty, staff, and students on the University’s Foundation Day, LG Sinha praised the institution’s achievements in the NIRF-2025 Rankings, describing them as a “revolution” in Jammu and Kashmir’s higher education landscape. However, he encouraged self-introspection and setting new, ambitious goals to sustain progress. “The process of change in the campus should continue uninterrupted so that students remain determined, eager to learn, and ready to face future challenges,” he added.The LG emphasized transforming classrooms into “thinking rooms” filled with curiosity and creativity, advocating for experience-based, interdisciplinary, and project-based education to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application. He also called on faculty to guide youth in balancing nature with development.
During the event, LG Sinha felicitated alumni, NSS and NCC volunteers, and retired staff of the University, urging alumni to contribute to the institution’s progress. The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Northern Region Transmission System – II) handed over a PA System and streetlights to the University under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.Notable attendees included Shri Justice Tashi Rabstan, former Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu; Shri Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, PowerGrid; Dr Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof. J.P Singh, Dean Academic Affairs; Dr Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, along with distinguished alumni, faculty, staff, and students.The ceremony underscored the University’s commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and community service, aligning with the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
