Srinagar, April 19, 2025: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha interacted with members of the Young Presidents’ Organisation – Global One at a significant event in Srinagar. The discussion centred on the Union Territory’s transformative journey over the past five years, emphasising a strategic, multi-faceted approach to achieving holistic development, economic growth, sustainability, and the seamless implementation of social welfare schemes.
In his address, LG Sinha highlighted the administration’s commitment to fostering faster, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. He outlined the adoption of a comprehensive strategy to harness the region’s industrial potential while maintaining a delicate balance between economic progress, environmental sustainability, and social development. “Our aim is to create a robust ecosystem that not only drives economic prosperity but also ensures equitable growth and environmental stewardship,” Sinha stated.
The LG elaborated on key initiatives that have propelled J&K’s development, including economic reforms, infrastructure advancements, and investor-friendly policies. Over the past five years, thousands of industrial units have become operational, bolstered by accessible credit facilities, improved ease of doing business, and attractive incentives. These measures have positioned J&K as an emerging hub for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and a preferred destination for both domestic and international investments.
Sustainability was a key focus of the interaction, with LG Sinha underscoring efforts to promote green development and preserve J&K’s rich cultural and natural heritage. He highlighted the administration’s push for Geographical Indication (GI) tagging of traditional products to enhance market access for artisans and boost the handicraft sector, which employs over 4.22 lakh people and remains a cornerstone of the region’s economy.
On the social welfare front, LG Sinha detailed the seamless implementation of schemes prioritizing youth, women, farmers, and marginalised communities. Transformative initiatives in agriculture, healthcare, and education were showcased, including the near completion of AIIMS Kashmir and plans to increase MBBS and PG seats in the 2025-26 academic session. These efforts aim to transform J&K into an educational and healthcare hub, ensuring inclusive growth for all sections of society.
The interaction with YPO-Global One, a prestigious network of global business leaders, provided a platform to showcase J&K’s investment potential and cultural richness. LG Sinha invited entrepreneurs and investors to explore opportunities in the region, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to maintaining investor trust and fostering a conducive business environment. He cautioned against irresponsible statements that could undermine this progress, reinforcing the government’s dedication to peace and prosperity.
The event also highlighted J&K’s strides in infrastructure development, with projects like the Sonamarg Tunnel (Z-Morh) and segments of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway reducing travel time and enhancing connectivity. Ongoing initiatives, such as the Expressway, National Highways, and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), aim to further integrate remote areas, driving economic and social inclusion.
LG Sinha’s engagement with YPO-Global One reaffirmed Jammu and Kashmir’s emergence as a model of holistic development, blending economic dynamism with sustainability and social equity. The administration’s multi-faceted approach continues to pave the way for a progressive, inclusive, and prosperous future for the Union Territory.
