Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, April 21, 2025 – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, emphasising policies to attract investment, streamline regulations, and boost economic growth. Speaking at a high-level industry meet in Srinagar, Abdullah outlined his administration’s vision to position J&K as a hub for sustainable and inclusive business development.
The region, known for its scenic beauty and strategic location, has faced economic challenges due to past unrest and recent natural calamities, including flash floods in Ramban. However, Abdullah highlighted the government’s proactive measures to create a conducive ecosystem for entrepreneurs and investors. “Our goal is to make J&K an attractive destination for businesses by ensuring ease of doing business, robust infrastructure, and unwavering support for local and external investors,” he stated.
Key initiatives include simplifying licensing processes, enhancing digital infrastructure, and providing incentives for industries like tourism, horticulture, handicrafts, and renewable energy. The government has also prioritized skill development programs to align the workforce with industry needs, particularly for youth and women. The UMEED scheme’s success in empowering women entrepreneurs in Kupwara was cited as a model for inclusive growth.
Abdullah announced plans to expedite the development of industrial estates with modern amenities and improved connectivity, leveraging J&K’s proximity to international borders for trade. The administration is also collaborating with the central government to roll out single-window clearance systems, reducing bureaucratic delays. “We are committed to transparency and efficiency to ensure businesses thrive,” he added.
Industry leaders at the meet welcomed the government’s approach. “The CM’s vision for a business-friendly J&K is promising. Simplified regulations and infrastructure support will boost investor confidence,” said Riaz Ahmad, a local entrepreneur.
The government’s efforts come amid ongoing recovery from recent landslides and floods, with the R&B Department clearing blocked roads in Uri to restore connectivity. Abdullah assured that disaster management and economic development would go hand in hand, with investments in resilient infrastructure to safeguard businesses.
As J&K navigates its path toward economic revitalization, the Chief Minister’s commitment signals a new era of opportunity, aiming to transform the region into a vibrant economic powerhouse while preserving its cultural and environmental heritage.
