J&K CM Omar Abdullah provides key updates in legislative assembly

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed the Legislative Assembly , offering clarifications on two key matters. He assured the House that his government remains committed to the development of administrative units established during his previous tenure, emphasizing ongoing infrastructure projects for the Mini Secretariat Dooru, which was initiated in 2018.

While replying to MLA G.A. Mir’s supplementary question, Omar Abdullah informed the House that the construction of the Mini Secretariat was progressing, with work completed up to the plinth level, though further approvals were pending. The revised project report (DPR) amounting to Rs. 598.91 lakh is still being reassessed in light of cost escalations, with a final decision to follow.

In another intervention during the Question Hour, the Chief Minister clarified that the proposed International Cricket Stadium at Bajalta, Jammu, was not a project of the Jammu and Kashmir government. He clarified that the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) had initiated the proposal, but it never materialized, and the government was not involved in its development.

Other Key Announcements:

  • Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the Assembly that 5,868 appointment orders had been issued under the Prime Minister’s Special Package for Kashmiri Migrants/Non-Migrant Kashmiri Pandits, with 132 posts pending due to court cases and administrative processes.
  • Health Minister Sakeena Itoo assured the House that the government was strengthening existing healthcare institutions in line with IPHS norms and rationalizing staffing for better medical services.
  • Education Minister Sakeena Itoo also mentioned that the School Education Department had received upgradation demands from various schools in Budgam, though financial constraints and staff shortages currently hinder immediate upgradation.

In another update, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, informed that Rs. 14.75 crore had been allocated for four projects under the Khelo India Scheme, with two projects already completed and two more under development.

The Chief Minister also responded to concerns regarding the lack of a Shrines and Temples Management Committee, assuring the House that security vigilance is maintained over religious sites.
