Jammu, May 1, 2025 —Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, chaired a crucial meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu to review the progress, challenges, and future plans related to the National Highway infrastructure in the Union Territory. The meeting brought together top officials from the Public Works (R&B) Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and other allied agencies.
The review focused on the status of ongoing highway projects, including key routes like the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway , the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel, and proposed expansions under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. CM Abdullah stressed the strategic and economic importance of these roadways in improving regional connectivity, easing transportation bottlenecks, and boosting trade and tourism.
“National Highways are the arteries of development. We are committed to ensuring timely completion of all projects, while addressing public concerns related to land acquisition, compensation, and road safety,” said CM Omar Abdullah.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure coordination with central agencies, environmental compliance, and disaster-resilient construction, particularly in the landslide-prone areas of Ramban and Banihal. Special attention was given to ensuring smooth traffic flow on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, which remains a lifeline for Kashmir Valley.
The meeting comes at a time when the region is simultaneously advancing on multiple fronts — from counter-terrorism operations and rural development to educational excellence — marking a multi-pronged approach to building a Viksit Jammu & Kashmir.
