Srinagar, April 28, 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly held a special session on Monday to address the devastating Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives on April 22, 2025. The session began with a two-minute silence in memory of the victims, followed by a resolution condemning the barbaric terrorist attack and reaffirming the Assembly’s resolve to combat terrorism and preserve communal harmony in the region.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, addressing the Assembly, emphasized the profound grief felt by the J&K Assembly, stating, “No Assembly or Parliament can understand the pain of the loss of 26 people in the Pahalgam carnage more than the J&K Assembly, which in the last decades has witnessed the loss of 40 lives in terrorist attacks.” His remarks underscored the region’s long history of suffering due to terrorism and the unique perspective of the J&K Assembly in grappling with such tragedies.
The resolution, moved during the session, expressed shock at the Pahalgam terror attack and urged the media to refrain from “irresponsibly inflaming passions,” highlighting the need for responsible reporting to maintain peace and stability. The Assembly also paid homage to the victims and resolved to fight resolutely against efforts to disrupt communal harmony and hinder the region’s progress.
Speaker Rahim Rather, who initiated the session, described the attack as one that “has shaken the nation,” expressing solidarity with the victims’ families and condemning the brutality of the act. The session saw unified support across the Assembly, reflecting a collective determination to stand against terrorism.
The Pahalgam terror attack has reignited discussions on security measures in Jammu and Kashmir, with the J&K Assembly calling for a concerted effort to defeat the “nefarious designs” of those seeking to destabilise the region.
