Srinagar , December 11,2025: Jammu & Kashmir has successfully installed 3,601 solar agriculture pumps under the Pradhan Mantri–Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan scheme, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The Union Territory was sanctioned 5,000 standalone off-grid solar pumps under Component-B of the PM-KUSUM scheme. With 3,601 installations completed, J&K ranks among the leading regions in promoting solar-powered irrigation and renewable energy for farmers. These off-grid solar pumps aim to reduce dependence on diesel-powered irrigation, provide reliable daytime power, and enhance income for farmers through sustainable farming practices.
Officials noted that no projects under Component-A or Component-C have been commissioned in the UT so far. The PM-KUSUM scheme provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of 50% of the benchmark cost to beneficiaries in Jammu & Kashmir, higher than the national norm of 30% due to its classification as a special category region. The remaining cost is shared between the UT government and farmers, though projects can also be implemented without the state share.
Nationwide, the Central Government has released ₹7,106 crore in CFA under PM-KUSUM till November 2025, supporting solar energy adoption for farmers, promoting diesel-free irrigation, and reducing input costs. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to government solar schemes, solar irrigation pumps, and renewable energy solutions in agriculture.
