Jammu, 24 January 2026: The Department of Horticulture, Jammu, in collaboration with district offices, organised an awareness and training programme for the tribal community, focusing on government schemes aimed at livelihood and employment generation. The programme was held at the Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust Office, Channi Himmat.
The programme highlighted key horticulture schemes, including JKCIP, CSS, SMAM, ATMA, PMKSY, and MIDH, emphasizing opportunities for horticulture-based livelihoods.
The session was chaired by Mission Director HADP/JKCIP, Sandeep Kumar, in the presence of Director Horticulture Jammu, Gul Syed. Also attending were Director Animal Husbandry, Sanjay Gupta; Director Extension, Amrish Vaid; Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, R.K. Kotwal; Head of Extension Department SKUAST Jammu/JKCIP, Pawan Sharma; and Chief Canning Instructor (CCI), Jammu, Sanjeev Kumar.
Officials deliberated on various departmental schemes and underscored the importance of skill development through training programmes, particularly in fruit and vegetable preservation, to boost income generation among tribal beneficiaries.
The programme witnessed active participation from the tribal community, reflecting their keen interest in adopting horticulture as a sustainable livelihood option.
