In Srinagar, many children with special needs are receiving education and care through dedicated schools and resource centres. Children are provided with individual attention, learning materials, and continuous support. Special educators and resource persons regularly visit these schools to guide the students in different ways. Parents also play an important role by encouraging their children and ensuring regular participation in learning activities. Across the district, there are eight educational zones where special educators and resource persons are working. So far, about 1,700 special children have been identified. Each child is carefully assessed to determine the type of disability and the right teaching methods for improvement. Some disabilities are visible, but many are hidden, such as autism, learning disabilities, or slow learning. These require professional evaluation before any educational or therapeutic plan can be made. Unlike other children who may learn something in two or three attempts, special children often need a lesson to be repeated several times. Even then, some may forget the content within a few hours because of short memory issues. Teachers therefore apply different learning strategies and techniques to help them retain knowledge. Parents have observed visible improvement when children attend resource rooms regularly and receive extra classes from their teachers. Technology is also playing a key role. Blind students are using smartphones and computers, while children with locomotor disabilities are able to move around with the help of electric wheelchairs. This makes education more accessible and inclusive. The teachers involved in this work treat it not just as a job but as a moral duty. They believe that if God has taken something from these children, He has also blessed them with unique abilities. Their role is to nurture these abilities with sincerity and patience. The efforts of special educators, parents, and the use of modern technology are bringing positive changes in the lives of special children in Srinagar. With dedication and continuous support, these children are showing improvement and moving closer to a brighter and more independent future.
