Pulwama, September 12, 2025: The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine , Field Station Bonera, Pulwama, distributed honey bee boxes to local farmers under the CSIR Floriculture Mission after the successful completion of a 10-day training programme on scientific beekeeping.
The initiative aims to promote rural entrepreneurship, self-employment, and sustainable livelihood opportunities in South Kashmir. Farmers were trained in modern apiculture practices, honey extraction techniques, and value addition methods to enhance income generation.
Speaking on the occasion, officials from CSIR-IIIM Pulwama highlighted that beekeeping not only provides farmers with an additional source of income but also plays a key role in pollination, biodiversity conservation, and crop productivity. The programme is expected to empower youth and small-scale farmers by encouraging commercial beekeeping and floriculture-based enterprises.
The distribution of honey bee boxes marks another step by CSIR-IIIM towards strengthening the agro-economy of Pulwama district and creating sustainable models of entrepreneurship in Jammu and Kashmir.
