Hi-Tech polyhouse farming revolutionises farmers lives in Udhampur under HADP

Udhampur, May 13,2026-Modern farming techniques under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) are bringing significant changes to the agricultural landscape of Udhampur district, where farmers are witnessing higher production, better income, and improved employment opportunities through hi-tech polyhouse farming.

Farmer Nisha Devi, who works in a hi-tech polyhouse farm in Udhampur, said the initiative has proved highly beneficial for local farmers. She said that one cucumber plant is producing up to 20 kilograms of yield, something farmers in the area had not seen before.

“We do farming, and this polyhouse has been very useful to us. One plant can grow up to 20 kilograms of cucumber, which is a first for us. We want to thank the government for such schemes. Now, we do not need to go anywhere else to work as we are getting employment here,” she said.

Udhampur Chief Agriculture Officer Harbans Singh said that under HADP, the Agriculture Department has installed both low-cost and hi-tech polyhouses to promote advanced cultivation methods in the district.

He said the department has diversified ivy gourd production by cultivating it in both low-cost and hi-tech polyhouses, resulting in increased production and expansion of cultivation areas.

“Farmers are now cultivating lettuce, cherry tomato, and cucumber in hi-tech polyhouses, which has increased their income and generated employment. In Martha, we have established a hi-tech polyhouse,” Singh said.

Officials said the initiative is helping farmers adopt modern agricultural practices while strengthening sustainable farming and rural livelihoods in Jammu and Kashmir.
