The seasonal harvest of the famous GI-tagged Bhaderwah Rajmash has begun in the hilly areas of Doda, bringing renewed hope of a strong crop and better returns for local farmers. At Khono village in Baghla-Bharat tehsil, located at around 6,100 feet above sea level, the Agriculture Department distributed nearly 100 kilograms of pure and certified Bhaderwah Rajmash seed to farmers under the HADP scheme. The initiative aimed to encourage farmers to expand cultivation of the traditional premium variety and improve agricultural production in the region. Farmers said the crop has performed particularly well this season. According to them, the seeds supplied from Bhaderwah have resulted in a healthy crop and raised expectations for a better harvest. Agriculture officials also expressed optimism after observing the standing crop in the fields. Following three consecutive years of reduced yields due to unfavourable weather conditions, the improved crop this season has brought fresh confidence among farmers. Bhaderwah Rajmash is more than an agricultural product for the mountain communities of Doda. It is closely associated with the region’s traditional farming practices, local identity and rural livelihoods. With continued support, quality seeds and increased cultivation, farmers hope to further expand production of this prized kidney bean and strengthen their income in the years ahead.
