From Job Seeker to Job Creator: Udhampur’s Anil Kumar Turns PMEGP Into a Mill

Udhampur graduate Anil Kumar has transformed an entrepreneurial idea into a growing local enterprise with support from the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). Through the scheme, Kumar established Earth Pure Enterprises near Fangyal Road, a unit engaged in flour milling, spice grinding and edible oil production. The enterprise provides multiple services under one roof, including flour processing, spice grinding and oil extraction. Kumar sells products through his store while also accepting digital orders and providing doorstep delivery, making his products accessible to customers beyond the immediate locality. An important aspect of the business is its connection with local agriculture. The unit purchases grains and whole spices directly from local farmers, creating a link between agricultural producers and consumers while supporting local economic activity. The enterprise has also become a source of livelihood for Kumar’s family and provides employment opportunities to other young people. His experience demonstrates how government-supported entrepreneurship programmes can help first-generation entrepreneurs establish small businesses. Kumar encourages unemployed youth and graduates to learn about PMEGP, understand its benefits and speak with entrepreneurs who have already established units under the scheme. He believes young people can explore entrepreneurship and work towards becoming job creators rather than only job seekers.
