Srinagar, May 6,2026- Fresh strawberries are being harvested in full swing at farms in Gassu, located on the outskirts of Srinagar, as the region enters the peak harvesting season. The vibrant fruit, prized for its taste and nutritional value, is witnessing strong demand across local markets.
Farmers in Gassu report a promising yield this year, attributing the success to favorable weather conditions and improved cultivation techniques. The cool climate of the Kashmir Valley continues to provide ideal conditions for strawberry farming, ensuring high-quality produce.
With the harvest at its peak, growers are actively supplying fresh strawberries to nearby mandis and roadside vendors. Many farmers are also adopting direct-selling methods to reach consumers, helping them secure better returns during the short harvesting window.
“This season is crucial for us. A good yield ensures steady income and supports our livelihoods,” said a local farmer.
In recent years, strawberry cultivation has gained popularity in parts of the Valley, emerging as a profitable alternative to traditional crops. Experts believe that increased focus on horticulture diversification is opening new avenues for farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.
The ongoing harvest season in Gassu not only supports local livelihoods but also reflects the growing potential of the region’s horticulture sector.
