Baramulla, 17 September 2025: An elderly couple from Gulabdaji village in Kawarhama, District Baramulla, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government for providing financial assistance through the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) Golden Card.
Recounting their struggle, the couple said, “Even if we sold all our property, we couldn’t have fetched Rs. 3 lakh. The Government provided all the money through the Golden Card for my treatment. PM Modi has done so much for the poor.”
The Golden Card scheme under Ayushman Bharat provides cashless health insurance of up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year, enabling economically weaker sections to access critical medical care without financial burden.
Health officials in Baramulla confirmed that hundreds of patients in rural areas have benefitted from the scheme, particularly those requiring costly surgeries and specialised treatments. The couple’s testimony highlights the transformative impact of the initiative in remote villages of Jammu and Kashmir, where access to advanced healthcare has historically been limited.
Local residents also lauded the government for ensuring that health services reach the poor and marginalized, calling the scheme a “lifeline for families in distress.”
