Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone launches Hi-Tech vegetable seedling Sale at Shopian’s mini secretariat green house

Shopian, April 4, 2025: Additional District Development Commissioner of Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone, inaugurated the sale of hi-tech vegetable seedlings today at the Green House located within the Mini Secretariat complex in Shopian. Organised by the Shopian Agriculture Department, the initiative aims to promote modern farming practices and empower local farmers with access to high-quality, resilient seedlings to enhance agricultural productivity.

The hi-tech seedlings, cultivated in the controlled environment of the Green House, include varieties of vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicum, and other seasonal crops, designed to thrive in the region’s climate. These seedlings are developed using advanced horticultural techniques to ensure disease resistance, faster growth, and higher yields, offering farmers a sustainable path to improved harvests. The Green House facility, equipped with climate control systems, represents Shopian’s push toward innovative agriculture.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Lone emphasized the importance of adopting modern farming methods to boost the district’s agrarian economy. He encouraged farmers to leverage the hi-tech seedlings to increase crop quality and market competitiveness, aligning with the broader vision of transforming Shopian into a hub for progressive agriculture. The ADDC also interacted with farmers, assuring them of continued support from the administration in accessing resources and training.

The sale attracted farmers from across Shopian, eager to integrate these advanced seedlings into their fields. The Agriculture Department set affordable prices to ensure accessibility, with officials on hand to guide farmers on cultivation techniques for optimal results. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the region’s agricultural backbone, which supports thousands of livelihoods in the district known for its apple orchards and vegetable farms.

The Shopian Agriculture Department plans to expand such initiatives, with future sales and workshops to promote greenhouse technology and sustainable practices. Today’s event marks a step forward in equipping farmers with the tools to meet growing food demands while adapting to changing environmental conditions.
