SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 10: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, chaired a meeting to review the current status of drinking water supply across the Kashmir region and the functioning of various Public Health Engineering (PHE) schemes.
At the outset, the Chief Engineer (CE) of PHE provided a detailed presentation on the operational status of water supply schemes, including lift schemes, filtration plants, water tankers, and other logistical support ensuring the availability of potable water. The CE informed that 13 water supply schemes in Baramulla had been temporarily disrupted due to recent snowfall in the upper reaches, particularly in the Botapathri area, but assured that all schemes had now been fully restored.
In response, the Div Com directed the Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of these schemes by PHE staff to prevent future disruptions. He emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted water supply, particularly in areas affected by weather conditions.
The Div Com further directed the concerned authorities to ensure the regular and reliable supply of drinking water by closely monitoring all active schemes. He also stressed the importance of addressing any grievances related to water supply in a timely and efficient manner.
On the issue of the Parihaspora Water Supply Scheme (WSS), the Div Com instructed the officers from PHE and KPDCL to ensure its full functionality by January 15, 2025.
Additionally, regarding the laying of pipes at Shadipora, the Div Com directed the SSP Ganderbal to look into the matter and resolve any issues promptly to ensure smooth implementation.
The Div Com concluded the meeting by reiterating the need for effective coordination between all stakeholders to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted supply of drinking water across the region.
