Srinagar, November 29,2025: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced plans to develop nine new sustainable and environmentally responsible tourist destinations across the Union Territory. The initiative aims to promote eco-tourism while actively involving local communities in the planning, development, and management of these destinations.
Speaking on the initiative, CM Abdullah emphasised that the project will focus on preserving natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and biodiversity, ensuring that tourism development aligns with environmental sustainability. He highlighted the importance of creating job opportunities for locals and empowering communities to benefit directly from tourism growth.
The program will integrate eco-friendly infrastructure, waste management systems, and renewable energy solutions at tourist sites. Authorities believe that sustainable tourism development will not only boost the economy but also foster a deeper connection between visitors and the region’s cultural and ecological assets.
This move reflects the administration’s commitment to responsible tourism, environmental conservation, and community engagement, making J&K a model for sustainable travel in India.
