Anantnag, March 1,2026- In a significant step towards strengthening preventive healthcare in South Kashmir, the District Development Council (DDC) Anantnag on Saturday inaugurated the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Achabal.
The campaign aims to protect adolescent girls against cervical cancer by administering the HPV vaccine under a structured immunization programme. Health officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to expand awareness about cervical cancer prevention and ensure timely vaccination among eligible beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC representatives emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare and early immunization in reducing the burden of life-threatening diseases. They urged parents and guardians to actively participate in the campaign and ensure that eligible girls receive the vaccine as per medical guidelines.
Medical Superintendent of SDH Achabal highlighted that the hospital has made adequate arrangements, including trained healthcare staff and proper cold chain management, to ensure safe and effective vaccine administration. Awareness sessions were also conducted to educate attendees about the benefits of the HPV vaccine and dispel myths associated with vaccination.
Health department officials reiterated that HPV vaccination is a globally recognized preventive measure against cervical cancer, which remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women. The drive will cover targeted age groups in a phased manner across the district.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by healthcare professionals, local representatives, and members of the community, reflecting a collective commitment to improving public health outcomes in Anantnag.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with healthcare teams and make the campaign a success, marking another milestone in the district’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services at the grassroots level.
