SHOPIAN JULY 30: In an effort towards promoting cleanliness and hygiene in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb today chaired a meeting of the concerned officers to review the preparations for the conduct of Swachhta Pakhwada.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various activities planned for the fortnight-long campaign starting from 1st August till 15th August across the district to instill the sense of civic duty among the citizens.
These activities include extensive cleanliness drives, awareness programs, rallies, marathons, quiz programs and workshops aimed at cleaning our surroundings and educating the public about waste management, sanitation practices, and the harmful effects of pollution.
During the meeting, a district-level committee was constituted to oversee the campaign’s implementation while tehsildars and BDO were tasked to handle its execution in urban and rural areas, respectively.
As part of the campaign, a swachhata pledge will be held on 1st August which will witness participation by students from all the institutions across the district.
The DDC further directed the officers to organize plantation drives at the legacy waste dumping sites and ensure that waste is segregated, collected, and disposed-off in an environmentally friendly manner.
Furthermore, DDC highlighted the significance of Swachata Pakhwada and called for an active participation of local communities.
The meeting was attended by the Additional District Development Commissioner, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone; ADC, Dr.Zakir Hussain Faaz; Chief Planning Officer Shopian, ACD/ ACP, other district/ sectoral officers, Tehsildars, BDOs, EOs and other concerned officers.
