Budgam, May 3, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Akshay Labroo, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam, Nikhil Borkar, conducted a thorough inspection of facilities at Srinagar International Airport on May 2, 2025, to ensure smooth departure arrangements for Hajj pilgrims embarking on the 2025 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. The visit underscores the district administration’s commitment to facilitating a hassle-free experience for pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir.
The officials reviewed critical arrangements, including drinking water stations, medical aid facilities, traffic management, and baggage handling systems, to ensure seamless operations for the thousands of pilgrims expected to depart from Srinagar. DC Labroo emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts among departments to provide a comfortable and dignified experience for the Hajjis. “All necessary measures are in place to ensure pilgrims face no inconvenience,” he stated during the inspection, directing officers to maintain high standards of service.
The inspection follows a series of proactive measures by the Budgam administration, including the distribution of essential Hajj 2025 documents such as passports, bracelets, and visas to pilgrims from the district, as announced on May 1, 2025. These efforts build on the administration’s experience in managing pilgrim logistics, with approximately 6,802 pilgrims having departed from Srinagar for Hajj 2024, and similar arrangements planned for 2025.
SSP Borkar, overseeing security and traffic coordination, ensured robust deployment of personnel to manage vehicular movement and maintain order at the airport. Special vehicle passes have been issued online for relatives receiving pilgrims, streamlining the process. The presence of J&K Hajj Committee staff and immigration personnel further enhances operational efficiency.
The Srinagar International Airport, a key embarkation point for Hajj pilgrims from J&K, has been equipped with dedicated facilities, including separate prayer spaces and operational X-ray machines to expedite baggage handling. These arrangements reflect lessons learned from previous years, such as the warm reception of the first batch of 320 returning pilgrims in June 2024, led by DC Labroo and SSP Borkar.
As the Hajj 2025 season begins, the Budgam administration’s meticulous planning ensures pilgrims can focus on their spiritual journey, reinforcing Srinagar’s role as a vital hub for this sacred pilgrimage.
