BARAMULLA, JANUARY 20: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, convened a meeting of the District c (TB) Forum to strengthen the district’s efforts in combating tuberculosis (TB) and to work towards the goal of eliminating the disease by 2025, as part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).
During the meeting, the DC emphasised the urgent need to intensify awareness campaigns to educate the public about TB, its symptoms, and the importance of seeking timely treatment. He highlighted the significant challenge posed by the social stigma surrounding the disease, which remains a major barrier to its elimination. To address this, Minga Sherpa directed the Health Department to launch targeted awareness initiatives, particularly in rural and remote areas, to dispel misconceptions and encourage early diagnosis.
The DC also stressed the critical role of early detection and prompt intervention in preventing the spread of TB. He called for the strengthening of diagnostic facilities at the grassroots level to ensure easy access for all, particularly in underserved areas.
Recognising the importance of community involvement, Minga Sherpa urged local leaders to actively participate in breaking the stigma associated with TB and to provide continuous support for patients throughout their treatment journey.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need for comprehensive nutritional and financial support for TB patients, particularly through the¸, which offers financial assistance to those undergoing treatment. He stressed the importance of effective implementation of this scheme to ensure that patients receive the necessary support for their recovery.
The meeting concluded with a call for collective action from all ¸ to ensure a concerted and effective fight against TB in the district, with the ultimate aim of achieving its elimination by 2025.
