Srinagar, August 12, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted a spot review of restoration works at the historic Shalimar Garden in Srinagar, undertaken through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by the JSW Foundation. The visit highlights the government’s focus on preserving the region’s cultural heritage while enhancing facilities for visitors.Chief Minister Abdullah toured key monuments within the Mughal Garden, including the Pink Pavilion, Rani Mahal, and Black Pavilion. Accompanied by the Commissioner Secretary of Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Director Floriculture Kashmir, and JSW Foundation representatives, he received updates on the conservation progress. He issued directives to ensure timely completion of the restoration, emphasizing the preservation of the site’s heritage character alongside improvements to visitor amenities.
The restoration project, part of efforts to conserve six Mughal Gardens in Kashmir listed on UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites, focuses on structural restoration, landscape development, and safeguarding architectural features. The initiative aims to enhance the visitor experience while maintaining the historical and cultural essence of Shalimar Garden. Abdullah commended the collaboration between the Department of Floriculture and the JSW Foundation, stressing the importance of sustained efforts to protect this heritage site for future generations.
