Cleaning is citizens’ duty too, not just the job of Safaimitras: Chadoora’s message

The Municipal Committee of Chadoora, a town in Budgam district of Jammu & Kashmir, organised a Jashn-e-Chadoora programme, whose mission was to spread the message of cleanliness in every home of Chadoora. The officials said, the government has, according to plan, set up in each Municipal Council Committee a Solid Waste Management facilities plan. The goal is to dispose off the waste in a scientific manner. It is an initiative under Urban Swachh Bharat programme to keep the urban areas clean. Safaimitras say that through this initiative, they have come to know how harmful the plastics are for their health and environment. Youngsters and school children are also getting this message that cleaning is not just the job of a Safaimitra and responsibility of the Municipal Committee, even they too must play their part in keeping their environment clean. Further, under the programme, experts spoke about separating waste at source and the concept of biodegradable waste and non-biodegradable waste. Several artists put up a programme to educate the masses about segregation of waste, harmful plastics and cleanliness. The programme sends the message across to everyone that cleaning must be inculcated as part of citizens’ duty too.
