Kashmir,January 17,2026- Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness a wet and wintry spell, with heavy rain and snowfall forecast across the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal range and South Kashmir on January 23 and 24, prompting authorities to issue alerts and advisories.
Officials warned that the impending weather system may be accompanied by gusty winds, raising the risk of landslides, avalanches and travel disruptions, particularly in higher reaches and vulnerable areas. Road connectivity across mountain passes may be affected during the period.
Residents, tourists and commuters have been advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. Farmers have also been urged to take precautionary measures to protect crops, orchards and livestock.
The administration said that disaster management teams and field agencies have been alerted to ensure preparedness and timely response in case of any emergency arising due to intense rainfall or snowfall.
