Kashmir,January 12,2026-Baramulla’s young cyclists have scripted a landmark chapter in Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting history by making their first-ever appearance at the Khelo India Asmita Women’s Cycling League. Representing the Union Territory on the national stage, Ulfat Mushtaq, Mehak Mushtaq and Hoor-i-ein Lone displayed remarkable courage, resilience and competitive spirit in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
The Asmita League, a flagship initiative under Khelo India aimed at promoting women’s participation in sports, witnessed spirited performances from the Baramulla trio. Competing against seasoned cyclists from across the country, the young athletes faced challenging race conditions, including high-speed crashes and intense competition, yet demonstrated determination by completing their events with strong finishes.
Despite limited exposure and infrastructure compared to athletes from established sporting hubs, the cyclists from Baramulla stood out for their mental toughness and fighting spirit. Their participation marks a historic milestone as the first women cyclists from Jammu and Kashmir to compete in the Asmita League, signaling a new era for women’s cycling in the region.
Officials and coaches hailed the achievement as a reflection of growing grassroots sports development in Kashmir, particularly among girls. The performance of these athletes has not only brought pride to Baramulla but has also inspired a new generation of young girls to pursue competitive sports.
The journey of Ulfat, Mehak and Hoor-i-ein goes beyond podium finishes—it represents hope, empowerment and the steady rise of women in sports from conflict-affected regions. As Baramulla pedals forward, their success reinforces a powerful message: Kashmir’s daughters are ready to race, compete and lead on the national stage.
