BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 12: In a significant move towards achieving a TB-free India by 2025, the ‘100 Days TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ was launched in Baramulla district. The event marked a major milestone in the district’s fight against tuberculosis (TB) and was attended by Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Baramulla,Javed Ahmad Beigh, who was the chief guest. Also present were MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah, MLA Uri Sajad Shafi, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Minga Sherpa, ADC Baramulla Zahoor Ahmad Raina, Principal GMC, and healthcare professionals, including ASHA workers,district health officers, and community representatives.
In his address, Javed Ahmad Beigh emphasized that the ‘100 Days TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ is a call to collective action. He urged healthcare workers, community leaders, and the public to unite in making Baramulla a frontrunner in the fight against tuberculosis. He stressed the importance of community involvement, early screening, and timely diagnosis to eliminate TB, a disease that continues to pose a significant healthcare challenge.
MLA Uri, Sajad Shafi, highlighted the urgency of awareness campaigns and education in the fight against TB, noting that TB remains a persistent health issue that requires comprehensive community engagement and awareness. MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah, praised the tireless efforts of healthcare workers, particularly the Government Medical College (GMC), for its pivotal role in diagnosing, treating, and managing TB cases in the region.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, underscored the importance of initiatives like the 100 Days TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, calling it a critical step in reducing TB cases significantly. He emphasised the need for early detection, effective treatment, and continuous public awareness to control the spread of tuberculosis in the district.
A key highlight of the launch was the pledge taken by all the representatives, officers, and officials present at the event. They committed to collaborating with elected leaders, government agencies, and stakeholders to eliminate tuberculosis and work towards achieving a TB-free Baramulla.
The event also honoured TB survivors and healthcare professionals for their remarkable contributions to the fight against tuberculosis in the district. Their resilience and dedication were celebrated as a source of inspiration for the ongoing TB eradication efforts.
In line with the campaign’s objectives, a book was launched, highlighting the importance of early detection, nutrition in prevention and recovery, special care for high-risk groups, and the need to ensure treatment completion for effective disease management.
Additionally, as part of the initiative, a utility vehicle equipped with mobile diagnostic units was flagged off. This mobile unit, fitted with advanced diagnostic tools, will travel to remote villages, ensuring that every individual has access to free and accurate TB testing, thereby expanding the reach of essential health services to even the most isolated communities.
