Srinagar, December 10, 2025:Kashmiri craftsmanship received national recognition as Manzoor Ahmad Khan and Khawaja Nazir Ali were awarded the National Handicraft Awards for their excellence in carpet weaving and Sozni embroidery, respectively. The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
In addition, Mashkoora Hameed and Mir Arshad Hussain were honoured with Certificates of Excellence for their outstanding contribution to preserving Jammu & Kashmir’s craft heritage.
Officials highlighted that these awards underscore the rich cultural legacy of Kashmir and the importance of handloom and handicraft traditions in India. Manzoor Ahmad Khan was recognised for his mastery in hand-knotted carpets, while Khawaja Nazir Ali’s Sozni embroidery work exemplifies the intricate artistry that has defined Kashmiri craftsmanship for centuries.
The recognition aims to encourage artisans to continue their work, inspire younger generations, and promote traditional crafts at a national and global level. Authorities emphasised that supporting artisans is crucial for sustaining cultural heritage, creating employment opportunities, and boosting local economies.
