Doda, December 30,2025-Amid intensified anti-terror operations in the Chenab Valley, the Indian Army has intensified training of Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in Doda district to strengthen grassroots security and enhance community-based defence mechanisms.
The training programme aims to equip VDG members with basic combat skills, weapon handling, surveillance techniques and emergency response measures, enabling them to act as a vital support system for security forces in sensitive and remote areas. Army officials said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure effective coordination between local communities and security agencies.
The Chenab Valley region, comprising districts such as Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, has witnessed heightened vigilance following recent terror-related incidents. In this backdrop, the Army is focusing on capacity-building of local defence volunteers to counter potential threats and maintain peace in vulnerable villages.
Officials stated that VDGs, drawn from local residents, possess critical knowledge of terrain and population, making them an important force multiplier in counter-terrorism efforts. Regular training and refresher courses are being conducted to keep them operationally prepared and disciplined.
The Army also emphasized that the programme is aimed not only at strengthening security but also at instilling confidence among local residents, ensuring that civilians feel protected during ongoing operations.
Security forces continue to maintain a high state of alert across the Chenab Valley, with search operations, area domination patrols and intelligence-based actions underway to neutralize terrorist networks and ensure long-term stability in the region.
