Anantnag, May 19,2026- Apiculture is rapidly emerging as a sustainable source of livelihood and self-employment in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, with more than 310 youth now actively associated with beekeeping activities.
The growing interest in beekeeping has opened new avenues of income generation for unemployed youth and rural communities, while also promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable agriculture in the region.
Officials from the agriculture and allied departments said various awareness programmes, training sessions and government support schemes have encouraged young people to adopt apiculture as a profitable venture. Modern beekeeping techniques, honey processing and marketing strategies are also being introduced to improve production and quality.
Many young entrepreneurs in Anantnag have established apiaries and are successfully producing natural honey and other bee-related products, creating employment opportunities at the local level.
Experts believe the climatic conditions and rich floral diversity of Kashmir make the region highly suitable for beekeeping, enabling farmers and youth to earn a stable income with relatively low investment.
The initiative is also contributing towards rural economic growth and promoting self-reliance among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
