AMRUT 2.0 funds ₹124 crore for Udhampur water project

Udhampur, March 6,2026- In a significant boost to urban infrastructure, Udhampur has received ₹124.19 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 project aimed at strengthening the town’s water supply system and addressing ongoing water scarcity issues. The project will upgrade the Tawi River-based water distribution network, ensuring functional taps for all residents.

Jal Shakti Department Executive Engineer Sandeep Gupta said, “A good project for Udhampur town has been approved under AMRUT 2.0. The current water requirement for Udhampur is 50 lakh gallons, but we are currently receiving only 35 lakh gallons. This shortfall of 15 lakh gallons will be addressed under the new project. We are also setting up a 2-lakh-gallon filtration plant. This will increase the water supply by 32 lakh gallons and meet the water requirements of Udhampur town for the next 15 years.”

The project will not only augment water supply but also improve filtration and distribution infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for all households. Officials believe that this initiative will have a long-term impact on urban living standards and strengthen the town’s resilience against water scarcity.

With the implementation of AMRUT 2.0, Udhampur is expected to witness enhanced water management, reduced shortages, and improved public health outcomes, contributing to sustainable urban development in the region.
