Kashmir, December 5,2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a curated set of traditional Indian gifts to Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the iconic Kashmiri saffron standing out as one of the key highlights. The gesture came during bilateral engagements aimed at strengthening the long-standing India–Russia strategic partnership.
According to official sources, the gift assortment showcased India’s cultural richness and craftsmanship. Along with the world-famous Kashmiri saffron, the Prime Minister gifted Assam black tea, a handcrafted silver tea set, a silver horse figurine, an intricately carved marble chess set from Agra, and a special Russian-language edition of the Bhagavad Gita.
Kashmiri saffron—often known as “red gold”—is globally renowned for its deep aroma, rich colour, and medicinal properties. Its inclusion in the diplomatic gift set highlights India’s agricultural excellence and the cultural significance of GI-tagged Kashmiri saffron, which symbolizes the heritage of the Kashmir Valley.
Diplomatic observers note that the gifting tradition underscores India’s emphasis on cultural diplomacy, reinforcing warmth in ties between New Delhi and Moscow. The gesture was seen as a reflection of mutual respect as both nations continue cooperation in trade, defence, energy, and regional stability.
The selection of gifts, blending heritage and craftsmanship, echoed India’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people and leadership-level ties with Russia.
