Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir – On April 23, 2025, the Government Medical College Baramulla held a five-minute silence to honor the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam and condemn the act of violence. The attack, which took place on April 22, 2025, in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, killed at least 26 people, primarily tourists, and injured several others, marking it as one of the deadliest terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years.
Students, faculty, and staff of GMC Baramulla gathered on campus in a solemn show of solidarity, mourning the loss of lives and expressing outrage against terrorism. The silence symbolized the community’s grief and unity, aligning with statewide sentiments as Jammu and Kashmir observed a bandh called by the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) in response to the tragedy.
The Pahalgam attack, attributed to The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) affiliate, targeted a popular tourist spot, disrupting the region’s reputation as a safe destination. Victims included Indian tourists from states like Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Karnataka, alongside two foreign nationals from Nepal and the UAE. Autopsies were conducted at the Government Medical College Hospital in Srinagar, underscoring the medical community’s role in responding to the crisis.
The GMC Baramulla event also reflected support for heightened security measures in the region. On the same day, the Indian Army neutralized two terrorists in Baramulla’s Uri sector, thwarting an infiltration attempt, signaling intensified counter-terrorism efforts post-attack.
The five-minute silence served as both a tribute to the victims and a resolute stand against violence, with the GMC Baramulla community joining calls for justice and peace in the valley.
