Shopian , November 7,2026- The District Administration Shopian organised the first-ever Jashn-e-Harud (Autumn Festival) in the district, marking an important initiative to showcase Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage, promote tourism and celebrate the natural beauty of the autumn season.

The festival brought together public representatives, district officials, local communities and visitors to celebrate Shopian’s cultural identity and traditional heritage. The event highlighted the district’s tourism potential while providing a platform to promote local traditions, cultural activities and community participation.

The festival was attended by Deputy Commissioner Shopian Charandeep Singh, MLA Zainapora Showkat Hussain Ganie and MLA Shopian Shabir Ahmad Kullay. The public representatives joined the celebrations and appreciated the efforts of the district administration in organising the first-ever autumn festival in Shopian.

Jashn-e-Harud was organised with the objective of presenting Shopian as an attractive tourism destination, particularly during Kashmir’s autumn season. During this period, the landscape transforms into a colourful spectacle, with golden and reddish leaves, scenic orchards, picturesque surroundings and pleasant weather creating a distinctive atmosphere across the Valley.

Shopian, widely known for its apple production and natural beauty, holds considerable potential for tourism and cultural promotion. The autumn season offers an opportunity to highlight the district’s scenic landscapes, agricultural traditions, local hospitality and unique cultural identity.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Shopian Charandeep Singh highlighted the importance of organising cultural festivals to promote tourism, preserve traditional heritage and create opportunities for local communities.

He emphasised the value of such initiatives in bringing people together and encouraging greater participation in activities that showcase the district’s identity. Festivals of this nature can also help strengthen the connection between cultural preservation, tourism development and local economic growth.

MLA Zainapora Showkat Hussain Ganie and MLA Shopian Shabir Ahmad Kullay also participated in the celebrations, appreciating the initiative and its potential to bring greater attention to Shopian’s cultural and tourism attractions.

The organisation of the first-ever Jashn-e-Harud represents an effort to expand the district’s tourism activities beyond conventional destinations and introduce visitors to the wider cultural and natural attractions of Shopian.

Autumn holds a special place in Kashmir’s cultural and natural landscape. The changing colours of trees, traditional orchards and rural surroundings make the season particularly attractive for visitors, photographers and nature enthusiasts. Promoting autumn tourism can help encourage travel during different periods of the year and provide additional opportunities for local businesses.

For Shopian, such festivals can also create visibility for local products, traditional practices and community-based tourism. Greater visitor interest can benefit transport operators, hospitality businesses, artisans, traders, farmers and other sections of the local economy.

The festival also underlined the importance of involving local communities in tourism-related activities. Their participation is essential for preserving cultural traditions and ensuring that tourism development reflects the district’s authentic identity.

The District Administration aims to establish Jashn-e-Harud as an annual feature on Shopian’s cultural calendar. Making the festival a regular event could help build a distinct identity for autumn tourism in the district while attracting visitors from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and other regions.

The initiative reflects the growing importance of cultural events in promoting regional tourism and creating platforms for local communities to showcase their heritage.

With its scenic surroundings, flourishing orchards, rich traditions and warm hospitality, Shopian has considerable potential to emerge as an important destination for autumn tourism.

The first-ever Jashn-e-Harud has therefore marked a significant step towards showcasing the district’s natural beauty, celebrating its cultural identity and creating new opportunities through tourism and community participation.
