Awantipora’s Nusrat Rasool is proving that determination and self-belief can overcome even the toughest challenges. A two-time winner of the Pedal for Paradise competition, Nusrat has emerged as an inspiring sportsperson, representing the spirit of courage and resilience in Jammu and Kashmir. At the age of five, Nusrat faced a major health challenge following a high fever and a medical injection that affected the nerves in her leg. Despite years of struggle and physical challenges, she refused to let her circumstances define her future. Her dedication and hard work helped her secure first position in the Pedal for Paradise competition in both 2025 and 2026. She has also represented herself at the national level in archery and actively participated in wheelchair basketball. Nusrat credits the Voluntary Medical Society (VMS), Bemina, for its encouragement and support. Following surgery and a difficult period of depression, joining wheelchair basketball helped her regain confidence and find new purpose. Alongside sports, she is pursuing B.Tech and working towards building a successful future in education and employment. Nusrat Rasool’s journey is a powerful reminder that physical challenges cannot limit ambition. Her story inspires young people, especially persons with disabilities, to believe in themselves, pursue their dreams and turn challenges into opportunities.
