For the past 34 years, Ajay Kumar Auttam, a resident of Kunj in Poonch district, has been dedicated to promoting greenery and environmental conservation. Beginning his mission in 1992, he has nurtured plants from his own mother plants and distributed them free of cost among people, religious institutions and local communities. Ajay estimates that he has distributed nearly one lakh plants over the years, helping spread greenery across different areas. Some of the plants have even reached Makkah, extending the reach of his environmental initiative beyond the region. For Ajay, the initiative is not merely about planting trees but also about contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. He believes that making plants accessible to everyone can encourage more people to grow trees and help improve environmental quality. Ajay says the satisfaction he derives from giving plants to others motivates him to continue his work. His efforts have also earned appreciation from the District Administration. At a time when environmental conservation and green cover are increasingly important, Ajay Kumar Auttam’s sustained efforts highlight how individual commitment can encourage community participation in protecting nature. His 34-year journey stands as an example of grassroots environmental action, driven by a simple vision to see more plants growing and greater greenery across the region.
