A Food Festival and Skill Development Programme was organised at PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School, Tethar, Banihal, as part of the Harud (Autumn) Festival. The programme provided students with an opportunity to showcase their creativity, practical skills and entrepreneurial abilities through an exhibition of food products, handicrafts, frames, calligraphy and other handmade items. The initiative was organised in line with the government’s focus on introducing vocational education at the secondary and higher secondary levels. The objective is to help students develop practical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset alongside their formal education, preparing them for future employment and self-employment opportunities. Students actively participated by preparing and marketing various products. One student showcased handmade frames and also brought squash-based jam, which she produces and markets herself. Such activities gave students first-hand exposure to product development, marketing and business practices. The exhibition also proved to be a motivating learning experience for the participants. Students said that the programme helped them understand how small ideas and skills can gradually develop into successful business opportunities. The Harud Festival initiative highlights the importance of skill development, creativity, confidence and entrepreneurship among young learners, encouraging them to explore self-employment and become future entrepreneurs.
