Rajouri School Sets Up Wet-Waste Composting Facility

Government Boys Modern Higher Secondary School in Rajouri has set a remarkable example of environmental responsibility by becoming the first school in the district to establish an on-campus wet-waste composting facility under the “Green Schools, Clean Schools” campaign. The initiative aims to turn waste into a useful resource while creating awareness among students about sustainable waste management. Through hands-on learning, students are being encouraged to segregate biodegradable waste such as agricultural waste, cow dung and other organic material and place it in the composting pit. After undergoing the natural composting process, the waste is converted into nutrient-rich manure that can be used in fields and gardens. The newly established compost pit is also helping teachers and students understand the importance of reducing waste and protecting the environment. The programme focuses not only on cleanliness but also on developing responsible habits among young people. With 50 Higher Secondary Schools selected under the “Green Schools, Clean Schools” campaign, the initiative has the potential to create a strong culture of environmental awareness across the district. By giving students practical experience in composting and waste management, the school is preparing them to become responsible citizens and ambassadors of cleanliness, sustainability and a greener future.
