Vaishno Devi Bhawan illuminated as devotees arrive in Katra ahead of navratri

Katra, October 11,2026– Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan presents a magnificent view as the holy shrine gears up for the Navratri festival. The Bhawan has been lit with elegant lights, creating a divine ambience amid the Trikuta Hills. With Navratri beginning tomorrow, a large number of devotees are arriving at Katra, the base camp of the shrine, to pay obeisance to Mata Vaishno Devi.

A Divine Glow in the Trikuta Hills

As evening falls, the Bhawan shimmers against the dark outline of the hills. Strings of lights trace the shrine complex, giving the sacred cave shrine a serene and radiant look. Pilgrims who have already reached the hills described the view as deeply moving, saying the lighting adds to the spiritual atmosphere of the yatra.

The Trikuta Hills, home to one of the most revered shrines in the country, take on a special charm during Navratri. The combination of mountain stillness, glowing lights and devotional chants creates an experience that many pilgrims remember for life.

Katra Fills With Pilgrims

Katra, the starting point of the yatra, is buzzing with activity. Devotees from Jammu and Kashmir and from other parts of the country are arriving by road, rail and air, many carrying offerings and chanting “Jai Mata Di.” Streets, markets and registration counters are crowded as pilgrims prepare to begin the climb to the shrine.

Local shopkeepers, pony and palanquin service providers and hospitality workers are also busy, as the festival brings a surge of visitors every year. For many families in the region, Navratri is among the most important times of the year, both spiritually and economically.

Navratri at the Holy Shrine

Navratri, dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Durga, holds special significance at Vaishno Devi. Devotees observe fasts, recite hymns and offer prayers for strength, prosperity and peace. The shrine is expected to witness a steady flow of pilgrims over the nine days, with the Bhawan remaining a centre of devotion.

Daily aartis, bhajans and special prayers add to the festive spirit, uniting worshippers in faith and devotion.

Arrangements for Devotees

With such large crowds expected, arrangements for the convenience of pilgrims are important. Facilities such as registration, queue management, drinking water, shelter and medical aid are generally put in place along the track and at the Bhawan, while security and traffic management help ensure a smooth yatra. Pilgrims are advised to register in advance, carry essentials, follow instructions and keep the route clean.

Faith That Draws Millions

Every year, lakhs of devotees undertake the journey to the cave shrine, driven by faith and the belief that Mata calls her devotees to her abode. Navratri, with its rituals and festive energy, draws even more pilgrims than usual.

As the festival begins, Katra and the Bhawan are ready to welcome devotees with warmth and devotion. Lights glow on the hills, chants fill the air, and thousands of pilgrims set out with one hope: to seek the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi.
