From Lansi to Class 12: Ravi Kumar’s Journey of Determination and Inclusive Education

Ravi Kumar, a visually impaired student from Lansi village in Udhampur, is pursuing his Class 12 education at Government Higher Secondary School, Krimchi. Despite complete visual impairment, Ravi has continued his studies with determination and has performed well academically through his own hard work. Ravi joined the school in Class 9 and has successfully progressed through Class 11. His teachers describe him as a bright student and an inspiration to others. He studies by bringing books very close to his eyes and remains actively engaged in his academic work and school activities. His classmates and peer group also play an important role in ensuring that he faces fewer difficulties in the classroom and participates alongside other students. Their support reflects the importance of an inclusive and supportive school environment. Ravi’s experience highlights the role of Samagra Shiksha, the Centre’s school-education programme that includes provisions aimed at supporting children with special needs and promoting inclusive education. With appropriate educational support, accessible learning opportunities and a supportive community, students with disabilities can pursue education, develop confidence and work towards greater independence. Ravi’s journey stands as an example of determination, peer support and the importance of creating equal opportunities in education.
