Chief of the Army Staff visited Karnah in Kupwara, engaging with Ex-Servicemen and veterans in the forward area and interacting with members of the local community. During the visit, he also witnessed the ongoing OP DRISHTI Mega Eye & Cataract Surgical Camp at the Field Support Centre (FSC), Tangdhar. The medical camp is providing free eye treatment and cataract surgeries to residents of the remote border area. Experienced eye surgeons from Delhi are participating in the initiative, supported by the Indian Army medical team under the coordination of Brigadier Mishra and his team. The camp is aimed at bringing specialised healthcare closer to people living in difficult and remote areas. Beneficiaries said the Army had also arranged transportation, food and other assistance for patients travelling from areas including Muchal to Tangdhar. Patients who underwent cataract operations expressed relief at receiving treatment for vision problems that had affected their daily lives. Organisers said around 200 cases were expected to be addressed during the two-day camp. The visit of the Chief of the Army Staff highlighted the importance attached to the welfare of veterans and communities residing in forward areas. Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to the Indian Army, noting that cataract treatment can otherwise involve significant expenses. OP DRISHTI reflects the Indian Army’s ongoing focus on extending healthcare support and welfare services to veterans and communities in remote border areas.
